Armenia / Place guide
Discover Armenia
Armenia lies in the South Caucasus and has a predominantly mountainous landscape. Valleys and high ground influence the location of settlements and their connections. The country's cities offer contrasting perspectives on its geography and history.

Three different urban settings
Yerevan is the national capital, Gyumri is a centre in the northwest, and Dilijan lies in a greener mountain region. Their settings are not interchangeable.
A landscape of local histories
Religious buildings, older settlements and changing political periods contributed different layers to Armenian places. Exploring each city separately helps place those stories in context. Administrative boundaries and local names also matter: a capital city, a province and a national park describe very different kinds of geographical area.
