Discover Botswana
Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa. Much of its landscape belongs to the Kalahari, while the Okavango Delta creates a strikingly different northern water environment. This contrast is central to its geography.

An inland delta
The Okavango does not reach the sea. Instead, its water spreads through an inland delta, contrasting with extensive drier regions. Settlements and ecosystems respond to these different conditions.
Gaborone in the southeast
The capital lies near South Africa, far from the famous northern natural areas. It represents Botswana's administrative and urban life. Independence in 1966 marked the transition from the protectorate of Bechuanaland to the country's current name and national framework.
