Brazil / Place guide
Discover Brazil
Brazil occupies much of South America and has a long Atlantic coastline. Portuguese distinguishes its language setting from most neighbouring countries. Vast distances separate Amazonian cities, coastal metropolises and inland centres.

Several urban worlds
Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo show different metropolitan identities. Belém and Manaus connect with the Amazon region, while Salvador and Recife reveal older coastal histories.
Water and national geography
Rivers organise much of the interior; the Atlantic shaped colonial settlement and overseas trade. The federal capital is Brasília, not Rio. Individual city guides make these regional relationships clearer than one general image of the country.
