Discover Brunei

Brunei lies on Borneo's northern coast beside the South China Sea. The sultanate consists of two separate land sections bordering Malaysia. Rivers, rainforest and coastal settlements create several geographical perspectives.

Two parts of one country

Temburong lies apart from the western section, separated by Malaysian territory. Bandar Seri Begawan stands in the west beside a river leading towards the coast.

Sultanate and water settlement

Monarchy and Islam have important visible roles. Kampong Ayer near the capital adds a different subject: communities built above the water. This combination of river settlement, national institutions and wooded landscapes offers more depth than an account concerned only with oil and wealth.
