Discover Chad

Chad is a landlocked African country stretching from the Sahara through the Sahel towards different southern landscapes. N’Djamena stands in the west near Cameroon, rather than near the centre of the country’s extensive territory.

From desert to southern regions

Chad’s north–south extent crosses several landscape zones. Its neighbours include Libya, Sudan, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger. Those borders connect the country with several African regions beyond a single desert image.

A western river capital

N’Djamena lies beside the Chari and has an important regional trading role. Its river position offers a specific urban setting within the much larger country. Understanding the capital’s western location keeps its landscape distinct from northern Saharan areas.
