Discover Croatia

Croatia combines a long Adriatic coastline with an extensive inland region towards the Pannonian Plain. Islands, peninsulas and mountain ranges create a complex coastal geography. Inland Zagreb belongs to a different urban world.

Adriatic and continental settings

Coast and capital should not be treated as one shared landscape. The distance between them helps explain different economic, cultural and historical urban roles.

Three cities with distinct histories

Split developed around a Roman palace into a larger coastal centre. Dubrovnik preserves a walled core linked with a maritime republic. Zagreb represents the continental capital. Together these places reveal a more varied country than one familiar Adriatic panorama.
