Discover Guernsey

Guernsey lies near Normandy in the Channel Islands. It is a British Crown Dependency, not part of the United Kingdom. The bailiwick also includes other islands with distinct local characters.

Between British and Norman worlds

Place names, language history and buildings reflect several influences. Bays, beaches and steeper coastlines provide different settings. Large tides also change the appearance of harbours and shores.

St Peter Port as a centre

The capital occupies the eastern coast with higher ground behind its harbour. Compact town and small-scale island countryside belong together. The constitutional link with the Crown should be distinguished carefully from ordinary national boundaries on a simplified map.
