Jordan / Place guide
Discover Jordan
Jordan lies east of the Jordan River and Dead Sea. Highland regions connect with extensive dry landscapes of the Arabian Peninsula. Aqaba provides a short Red Sea coastline in the far south.

From deep valley to highland
The Jordan Valley and very low Dead Sea contrast sharply with nearby higher terrain. Short geographical distances can therefore contain substantial changes in landscape and settlement environment.
Amman within the northwest
The principal city occupies developed hills in the northwestern highland. Its setting differs from open southern regions and the deep valley. Considering these differences in elevation gives Jordan a clearer geographical structure than national boundaries or isolated landmark photographs alone.
