Kazakhstan / Place guide
Discover Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan stretches from the Caspian region towards mountains beside China. Most lies in Central Asia, while land west of the Ural is conventionally placed in Europe. Steppe, dry plains and mountains create distinct regional worlds.

A country of considerable distances
The great spread matters when comparing cities. Shared nationality does not imply similar environments or nearby locations. Waterways and mountain margins give particular centres different relationships with their surroundings.
Three regional anchors
Astana occupies northern steppe beside the Ishim. Almaty stands far south near the Tian Shan. Atyrau belongs to the western Ural and Caspian region. Together they reveal the country's geographical reach without reducing it to one national capital landscape.
