Lithuania / Place guide
Discover Lithuania
Lithuania is the southernmost Baltic state. A short Baltic coast contrasts with a much larger inland area of rivers and historic cities. Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda provide distinct regional perspectives within that geography.

Three positions within one country
Vilnius lies in the southeast, Kaunas more centrally and Klaipėda at the sea. These locations explain different urban functions rather than variations of one national cityscape.
Capitals, rivers and maritime access
Vilnius represents a long capital tradition. Kaunas combines a river confluence with an interwar capital role. Klaipėda connects the country with the Baltic and Curonian Lagoon. Their different histories make the national landscape more understandable through specific places.
