Discover Nigeria

Nigeria extends inland from the Gulf of Guinea towards the Sahel. The Niger and Benue organise major parts of the interior. Humid coasts and delta regions differ strongly from northern urban landscapes and cultural histories.

Capital and economic metropolis

Abuja is the national capital, while Lagos remains a major economic focus. These are different urban roles in separate places rather than interchangeable names for one centre.

Several regional worlds

Kano has northern Hausa traditions, Ibadan a Yoruba regional history, Onitsha important river trade and Port Harcourt a delta harbour setting. Languages and local environments give these cities distinct identities. Their variety cannot be adequately represented through one national skyline.
