Serbia / Place guide
Discover Serbia
Serbia connects the Danube region with river valleys and mountain landscapes farther south in the Balkans. Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš offer three distinct urban perspectives: the national capital, Vojvodina’s regional centre and a historic southeastern city.

Following the rivers
Belgrade stands where the Sava joins the Danube. Novi Sad lies farther upstream on the Danube, while Niš belongs to the Nišava valley. These waterways make the cities’ different regional settings especially clear.
Layers of political history
Serbia formed part of Yugoslavia and subsequently the state union with Montenegro. Kosovo’s status remains disputed. Keeping that complexity in view helps distinguish local urban history from simplified claims about the political map.
