Spain / Place guide
Discover Spain
Spain includes most of the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic and Canary Islands, and territories in North Africa. Madrid, Barcelona and Seville introduce contrasting settings: an inland plateau, the Catalan Mediterranean coast and an Andalusian river city.

Different regional landscapes
Spain’s autonomous communities have distinct geographical and cultural identities. Inland Madrid differs fundamentally from coastal Barcelona, while Seville’s position on the Guadalquivir connects its urban landscape with southern Spain’s Atlantic-facing river system.
Three individual urban histories
Madrid developed as a national administrative centre. Barcelona combines maritime connections with a Catalan capital role. Seville brings a substantial historic centre together with a navigable river. Each city offers a particular regional story within Spain’s wider geography.
