Discover St. Martin

Saint-Martin is the French northern part of the island shared with Dutch-side Sint Maarten. Marigot is its principal town. Similar names identify one island and two different administrative territories, not two separate neighbouring islands with matching labels.

One island, different statuses

The north is a French overseas collectivity. The south is a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The land boundary crosses a shared geographical island rather than separating two detached landmasses.

Marigot and Philipsburg

Each place has a particular role on its respective side. Identifying the correct town and coast makes photographs and individual locations easier to interpret accurately while preserving the relationship between the island's two communities.
