Discover Togo

Togo is a narrow West African country reaching the Gulf of Guinea. Ghana lies west, Benin east and Burkina Faso north. Lomé, the capital, occupies the coast beside the Ghanaian boundary, giving it a distinctive border and port setting.

A long inland corridor

The short coastline contrasts with the country’s considerable northward extent. Togo’s elongated shape links maritime areas with inland West Africa. A coastal photograph therefore shows only a small part of its national geography.

Lomé and regional trade

The capital’s port serves trade within Togo and connections towards the wider interior. Education and government add further urban functions. Lomé’s particular position at the meeting of sea, land and international boundary explains its role within that larger corridor.
