Discover Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked East African country crossing the equator. Lakes, higher ground and river regions create varied environments. Lake Victoria provides a major southern geographical reference, but it is only one part of the wider national landscape.

Water and highland regions

The relationship between lakes and terrain explains particular places and communities. National geography should not be reduced either to one urban centre or one familiar natural destination.

Kampala and older kingdoms

The capital occupies higher ground near the lake's northern side. Buganda's history is closely connected with the area, while other cultural regions and kingdoms belong within Uganda too. These distinctions give contemporary national administration a more layered local and regional context.
