Zambia / Place guide
Discover Zambia
Zambia is a landlocked southern African country bordering eight states, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Angola. Lusaka stands in the south-central part, offering one urban perspective within a much larger national territory.

Inland regional connections
Numerous borders connect Zambia with different African regions. The historical name Northern Rhodesia belongs to an earlier political period rather than the present state. Recognising that distinction helps interpret older geographical accounts.
Copper and the capital
Copper mining is an important part of the national economy, while Lusaka’s capital functions occupy a high plateau. These activities do not necessarily share one location. A mining scene elsewhere in Zambia therefore should not be identified as the capital.
